The Austrian baritone Thomas Zisterer studied at the Music-Academies of Tirol and Vienna and was winner of the Brigitte Fassbaender-Award.
His first engagements included apperancaes at the Donaufestival, Römersteinbruch St. Margarethen, the Opera Graz, Stadttheater Meran and at the Vienna State Opera in the children´s opera The 35th May.
From 2000 until 2004 he was member of the ensemble of the Tiroler Landestheater, where he sang among others Gustl Das Land des Lächelns, Bill Cahoun Kiss me Kate, Demetrius A Midsummer Night´s Dream, Belcore L´Elisir d´amore as well as Count Boni Csárdásfürstin. Later he returned as guest in roles like Magaldi Evita, in Under Milk Wood, Kilian Der Freischütz, Dr. Falke Die Fledermaus, Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos and Zsupan Gräfin Mariza.
He could be heard at the Lehár Festival in Bad Ischl in the roles of Count Montschi in Walzertraum, Vicomte Cascada in Die lustige Witwe, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Prunelles in Eva (also recorded for CD), Ivan in Der Zarewitsch and Gustl in Das Land des Lächelns.
In concerts he could be heard in Vaughan Williams´ Dona Nobis Pacem at the Musikverein, Mahler´s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra at the Konzerthaus in Vienna and with irish, scottish and welsh folk-songs in arrangements by Joseph Haydn und Ludwig von Beethoven with the Villaume Piano Trio in Munich. At the Landestheater Tirol he sang in a concert with tangos by Carlos Gardel and he gave a recital with pieces by Korngold, Schubert and Mozart at the American Colony Concert Series in Jerusalem.
Recent engagements include the role of Papageno in Die Zauberflöte under Gerard Korsten at the Landestheater Bregenz. He is a regular guest at the Volksoper Vienna where his roles include Cascada Die Lustige Witwe, Morales and Dancairo Carmen, Urbain Pariser Leben, Envy Antonia und der Reissteufel) and Dr. Hoggings in the children´s opera Erwin das Naturtalent.
He also performed the baritone parts of a new production of the Wiener Taschenoper of the Intermezzi Serpilla e Bacocco by Giuseppe M. Orlandini and Filetta e Spago by Benedetto Marcello at Schönbrunn Castle as well as Falke in Die Fledermaus at the Tschaikovsky Hall in Moscow.
In the season 2017/18 he can be seen as Toni Haberl in Eine Saison in Salzburg at the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl as well as in the roles Ottokar and Killian in Der Freischütz and as Cascada in Die Lustige Witwe at the Bühne Baden.
